![]() ![]() I highly recommend checking out Power Toys, it has much to offer including a Window layout manager and a OS X Spotlight-esque launcher. In my case, I hit Caps Lock, then ESC, and it was done! It also provides a visible list of mappings, and makes it easy to remove them if you make a mistake or change your mind. Keyboard Manager lets you define mappings intuitively you hit the key you want to remap, then press the key ou want to remap it to. It even has two Teach Modes at the bottom to help you get started. Then, find the key you want to be switched from the drop-down menu in front of Choose New Remapping. First, click on the key you want to change. I'm surprised some of these aren't built into Windows by default (maybe one day they will), but one of the utilities that Power Toys provided is Keyboard Manager. With a different layout that may be easier for some people to understand, KeyTweak is another good option. (For my laptop, I access the Bios by pressing the blue 'ThinkVantage' button while the computer is booting up). I then discovered Power Toys, a free set of programs for Windows 10 "power users" that provide a bunch of additional functionality. The bios swap for the function and ctrl keys is now implemented by Lenovo If you have a newer Lenovo laptop (mine is a thinkpad x201), you can find the option to switch them under the 'configure keyboard and mouse' options. I really wanted a tool I could install, configure and forget about, that also gave me the ability to remap multiple keys should I need. I need a way to return to the original settings. I used uncap and that did the job, but it was a bit manual, and only (by design) offered limited functionality. It seems Windows 10 has remapped my keyboard, the Shift+ (whatever Key) has been turned on its head. On Windows however, I could never find a solution. On Mac OS this remapping was easy the keyboard settings lets you remap certain keys, and tools like Karabiner Elements offered far more control. This started when I was learning Vim, and has become so commited to muscle memory that I can't go back from it and I'm rendered useless on any machine that doesn't have this mapped! Rename the file to hotkeys.ahk since the - Shortcut part isn’t useful. Right click anywhere and choose Paste shortcut to paste it into the Startup folder. Hit Win + r to run the Windows launcher (if you haven’t already overwrote that key :D) Run shell:startup. I don't remap much, but one remapping that I've used now for about ten years is that I remap Caps Lock to ESC. the keyboard, like Ctrl C for copy.I want to ctrl+b longstring is plac. Find your hotkeys.ahk file in Windows explorer and copy the file itself. Since moving to Windows 10 something I've always struggled with is how to remap keys on a keyboard. ![]() ![]() DecemRemapping Keys on Windows 10 with Power Toys ![]()
